NGfL Cymru Resources, Primary Science and Paper Blogs?

The video below outlines the project that Sue Barker (Yr 4 Teacher in Allensbank Primary School, Cardiff) carried out using NGfL Cymru resources. It shows how using the resources in an innovative and creative way can really boost the children’s engagement and enhance their learning experiences. Sue’s children in Yr 4 engaged in a series of lessons on sound using this NGfL Cymru interactive resource. They used sound sensors to measure the intensity of the sound produced by a bell that could pass through different materials and used the NGfL Cymru AfL grid to draw their bar charts.

Then, each group made paper blogs to share their findings with the rest of the class. At the end of the activity the learners moved around the classroom to read other groups’ blogs that were displayed on the wall and used sticky notes to post comments on each other’s paper blogs! This was a really engaging way for the children to report and reflect upon their work, whilst developing literacy in a class where a large number of pupils speak English as their second language and come from foreign countries.
